Belong To The Land

Find yourself some place to ground, some land to belong to and return to it - be with it, be in awe of it.

Don't feel tied to it, or ruptured from it.

Sometimes we outgrow places and sometimes we grow with or into the land we live on. We become it, we wear it, we smell like it and think like it. The land has a funny way of hushing your darkest fears but also igniting them.

We must choose our landings wisely and choose what we attach ourselves to intuitively. The spaces we belong to are everywhere but also entirely tailored and peppered in pause, pressure and possession.

Belonging is a natural thing, an affiliation, an ancient entrance into an ecosystem - both the desire to be in it and to be away from it are entirely natural and prehistoric. But the land is everywhere and we must choose where we position, locate and identify ourselves.

Nomadism is in us all and with that we can carry the landscapes we belong to wherever we are. Still - the body needs a resting place, a space to deposit and ground itself - to nest, nourish and nurture.

Belonging has ties - it has scars and it has marks. Belonging can feel like a containment, limiting and restricting our full expanse. Belonging has rules, codes, patterns and rituals.

Still, belonging to the land can feel warm, welcoming and a homing. It can become a soft scape to dream in, sleep in and slow in. Belonging also offers an identity, a story, a tradition and perhaps a legacy.

We all have roots. We all have movement in us. We all have to create space for both to live alongside one another.
