Choosing Ourselves.
Sometimes our relationships place such extraordinary pressure on our capacity that we find we lose ourselves completely. We shapeshift and cast aside our deepest needs for the sake of a loving dynamic. Familiarity, comfort, adventure or pleasure are all advocates for losing oneself within another.
Still, we always know deep down when something is stripping us of our strength, power, integrity and truth. Often contradictions lie in most relationships - as there are several ingredients that make a person. We find parts that inspire, elevate and commit our dedication. At the same time, we find qualities that dim, shade or darken our experience of day to day life.
It is vital that we recognise the impact of a such dynamics that takes more, than give - that steer us away from our direction or do not fully give us the space to expand and grow. This can be complicated because so many of our relationships are anchors that form part of who we are and who we have become. Still, it is essential that we protect our resources and stay true to what feeds and frees us most.
At times, we must choose what feels lightest, what feels most magnanimous and what captivates our imagination the most. It can be tempting to conserve the familiar but protecting our resources, our capacity and our joy is more vital than anything. Relationships are bound to change. Some will stay, some will grow with you, some need space and protection from, and some need to be cut for good.
Life does not discriminate - and ultimately we are all destined for disappointment and for imbalances in our relationships. Still, we all have a commitment to ourselves to honor - to commit to and fulfill our goals; to expand into our fullest potential and to live a life filled with fun, play and adventure. There is no certainty in our external relationships but there must be stability and certainty within our relationships with ourselves.
We all have deamons but it is vital that we conquer our own and avoid trying to rescue others. Choosing ourselves can be a challenge - but it is essential that we do. Living outside our capacities and feeding relationships that do not cultivate or enrich us is an option best left out.
So protect your reserves, honor your capacity and always choose yourelf. The consequence may be an ending or a shift. Ultimately, that is the healthiest road.
