Comparison - Death Of Contentment

When we fixate on and compare our choices, our lives and expectations with others, we create a space for resentment, chronic dissatisfaction and unhappiness.

Part of life is discovering what inspires, excites and ignites us. That may be completely separate or entirely in alignment with others. Still, it is important to invite variation, change and difference, and with a degree of balance. So that we are absorbing growth and still able to introduce risk and variety.

Life is instilled in timelines, chapters and markers. When we feel far from our intentions, our expected or predicted positions, attitudes or destinations, we feel enormous frustration, disappointment and at a loss.

Still, we must return to how far we have come, to acknowledge that deadlines are changeable, malleable and we have everything to live for.

Live life as though it is your last. Be flexible with your ambitions and dreams. Dreams are just dreams. You can always choose another. So pour your light, love and passion into these precious next hours. Wherever you are. Welcome a pause, welcome change and welcome the courage you might have to draw on in order to move and ground your expectations and honour your experiences.

Focus on what matters to you, who matters to you and make it matter. Give power to that which bolsters your strength and resolve. Reduce and remove those and that which do not align with who you truly are.

Having said that, do not allow your ego, identity or narrative restrict, block or rule out opposition, challenge and variety. When we exist too long in an echo chamber, we limit our perspective and the opportunities to thrive.

Try something different. Particularly if you feel stuck, blocked or lost. Give life control. Give others input and share the load.

Comparison has the potential to drive and improve our ambitions and values. It also has a way of lending a litmus test and motivating us towards something we believe in and can stand up for.

Try to strike a healthy balance in using comparison as a source of inspiration, motivation and movement. Rather than a source of criticism, doubt, disappointment and exhaustion.

Compare, look out of yourself and then focus your attention on your own reality, your own day to day, your own world and create a place of joy, meaning and contentment within that.

Focus on what you do have rather than what you do not. And remember that anything can be added to, shifted and moved forwards.

It is never too late to give life to that which truly matters to you! Find your pace and carve out a rhythm that you can return to, you can mould and you can share.
