Convert Envy into Admiration

At times, it is easy to feel envious or jealous of friends or acquaintances in our lives. They may have reached markers we wish to reach, gone on adventures we want to go on, or built lives we dream of having.


In these moments, it is important to identify what it is we covet - their beauty, their character, their confidence, taste, success, reputation, relationships or status? Draw on what it is you truly see value in and attempt to convert that quality into admiration.


This is a healthy and kind way to observe what others have with humanity and with grace - without heightened feelings of envy.


In this way we can witness the merits and achievements of others whilst retaining a happy and positive outlook. We may find ourselves inspired by what others have and perhaps even motivated to draw aspects of those qualities into our own lives, whilst simultaneously recognising our own value and beauty.


Each of us are unique. Remember that you have the freedom to choose where you place and invest your attention. Try not to feed unhealthy feelings of envy - instead put your mind into admiration and cultivate those inspiring qualities into your own life.


Envy often takes us away from gratitude, and from seeing the worth and power within ourselves. Next time you feel jealousy, try to return and land into your own body; draw out qualities you love about yourself, skills you possess and recall moments in which you have left an admirable impression or impact in the lives of another - be it small or great.


Recognise your worth, see value in your life and accept that there will always be things you don't have. Choose not to destroy your own sense of joy over what you feel is missing but instead find admiration, inspiration in others and perhaps even motivation to replicate or attain some of those components in yourself.


Most importantly, identify qualities you love about yourself in the present moment and in this very day. That way you can lift feelings of envy and convert them into something positive, into appreciating and recognising your own value, power and unique gifts; whilst simultaneously appreciating and admiring those of others.
