Finding the Ordinary - Extraordinary.
Our lives are wrapped in thoughts of destination, of uniqueness and by adventure. We seek out the wild, the wonderful and the extreme. There is much to be said about a life that is short and that demands to be fully lived. Still, there is much power and beauty in the simple things. So, what if being extraordinary is simply being ordinary?
There is a depth and power in the small things afterall and a life filled with ordinary simplicity can be enriching. Much of the things we strive for are ethereal and impermanent - such as status, fame, luxury or lavish endeavours. Still, the contentment and satisfaction in life, in ourselves and in our relationships lie in the ordinary; lie in the understated, the soft and the moments held by gentleness, simplicity and care.
When we find resonance and fulfillment in the small, we discover something big, something enriching and something that might cultivate a whole lifetime with fulfillment.
The world is noisy, abrasive and hungry. What if we slowed, paused, reduced and found colour in ordinary days and ordinary moments. A morning run in the fields, a hot cup of tea in the garden, a piece of Jazz listened to on a rainy afternoon or a visit to a favourite bakery. What if these small things are the best things in life and that these little gestures of ordinariness are what fosters and envelops stability, pleasure and ease.
While adventure is powerful and big steps are magnetic, there is much power in the small, the simple and the dedicated. Fame and fortune may favour the brave, but there is tremendous courage in rooting, in serving, in savouring and in protecting our little worlds.
If we can idealise ordinariness - its essential beauty and strength in enriching our lives with serenity, ease and pleasure; rhythm and ritual - we may find balance, protect sustainability and cultivate true life satisfaction.
