Inter-generational Wisdom

There is a great deal of wisdom that can be drawn from inter-generational relationships. We can find solace, resonance and compassion within friendships of varying generations.

Much power, presence and strength can be instilled and recognised between ages. In those older than us, we might find a sense of certainty, openness, self-reliance and easiness. Our younger friends may draw out playfulness, exploration, idealism, adventure and sensitivity.

These dynamics may also draw out our own wisdom - to guide, steer and inform ways forward and present alternating potentials and realities; for both our future and present lives.

This inter-generational wisdom may look like offering realistic expectations in a marriage, the emotional turbulence of adolescence or the realities presented in old age. Such interactions might draw and inspire us to take better care of our health, to carve out meaningful paths, to choose safe and loving environments to raise our families and to create lasting communities to envelop the movement of our lives.

Inter-generational friendships can guide and inform our choices, attitudes and approaches - nourishing our little worlds and presenting us with endless possibilities, variables and truths about life.

In moments, we can be struck by the resilience, compassion or confidence within our younger or older friends; as they demonstrate a flexible will or determination to live their best life, despite the obstacles. They may show us how to rest and digest, or how to seize the day, and make the absolute most of our time.

We can borrow aspects of their method, routine and discipline to nourish and guide our own. We might also find we inspire, uplift and impact their lives - as our ways of seeing challenge, relieve and shift their intentions and values as individuals.

We need to create and uphold friendships from all ages. This variety can only enrich and instil a sense of assurance, strength and empowerment. We can draw variation in our speed and order - i.e. the pressure to build conventions as young adults, to sustain them in middle age, to explore, navigate and define pathways as teenagers and embracing fragility in our more mature years.

Each chapter of age brings out the same challenges and patterns - in which we are all set to both gain and lose from. Still, we evolve,we adapt , we grow and we find courage and joy in each other, in ourselves, in the rich expanse of time and the beauty of precious contracting years.

In our inter-generational friendships we can restore confidence, provide faith and instil alternative realities, methods and ideas for living a rich and meaningful life. We may also challenge what we expect of ourselves and can meet with greater adventures, impact and achievement.

We are never alone and there is always another way of living and doing and being. Never take your age too seriously. Embrace your wisdom, your youthfulness, your dynamism and your sense of fun, throughout a lifetime.
