There are pieces of us that demand to be moved, demand to unfold, to be seen and recognised. Art lends a space for expression, a place to press our creativity, to be heard and to listen.
A feeling, an emotion presses itself in every lyric, every brush, note, etch and word. We find ourselves in the hands, lips, ears and tongues of artists.
They create the conditions to mark chapters, trace pains, joys, loves and laughter that swim and sail through any lifetime. At times it is peace and balance we seek - at times courage and strength - at times love and empathy - and at times we stand broken, lost and without a clue of how to move or where to put our feet on the ground.
Ups and downs, highs and lows, lift us out of dream and into daily rhythms. With little idea of the challenges we are to face. Art gives us a landing. It gives us company and gives us resonance. We know that we do not stand alone in our fears, in our questions, in our uncertainty.
If you find yourself moved by music, touched by painting, engulfed in a film or lifted by architecture - remember how innately creative you are too. Take courage in all expressions and allow your emotions to guide you, to lift you, to liberate you towards something universal, something whole and something human.
We all break, get hurt and bruised. Life is spun in risk and woven in an unpredictable tapestry of events. Take enormous strength from art. Find resonance in whatever charges and ignites you.
Be inspired to create. Write, cook, paint, craft, sing, dance, sew, drum or carve. Mark your emotions - whatever they be - and release whatever you are holding onto. Do something creative with others and share the act of invention, improvisation, play and expression - with meaning, with faith and without agenda.
Have fun with your creativity- you may find something deeper rises up to speak. Something long forgotten - lost in time - hushed in all these years.
