The Gift of Space
At times the pressure of daily life combined with chaos, uncertainty and with expectation, responsibility and duty - can leave us gasping for air. We all need to feed our imaginations and take space for our wild selves. The balance lies in creating and committing to small daily acts of release - such as sauna, breathwork, a coffee with a loved one or a walk in nature.
Balance is always found in movement, action and expression. Overwhelm is felt when the body is not expanding, releasing or moving. There is much to be said for taking adventure too - such as a trip to the beach, a life drawing course, staying with friends over the weekend or planning a short work-exchange retreat.
By breaking what feels ordinary, routine and restrictive, we give ourselves expansion, the opportunity to play and to revitalise our body and minds. Taking comfort in action, in movement and in adventure, supports our health, our vitality and our respect for life.
There will always be many plates to juggle - the trick is to observe when these become repetitive, constricting and uninspiring. This is when it becomes essential to move, to create, to connect and to take space.
All of us need a place to wander and to explore novelty, in order to remain malleable, neuro-plastic and to continue to grow with each chapter. Ultimately, space is a gift. Should you have small children, a high performance job to tend to, elderly parents or a mortgage to keep up with - taking space to feed your wild self, your pure imagination, is an essential and vital thing to do.
Each time you communicate that you matter, that your joy is non-negotiable and your happiness is something you will tend to, no matter what the circumstances. This kind of committment is sacred, liberating and creates lasting conditions of safety within your body - as you vow to tend to your balance whatever the load, whatever the role, whatever the situation. That - essentially - is powerful and deeply comforting.
It initiates you into personal responsibility for your own joy and invites you to always question conditions that do not serve, nourish or support your current chapter in life - and encourages you to find small releases that might drive you towards inhabiting a lighter and more playful world. Space is always a gift, always an opportunity and always a way to bolster and protect a healthy balance.
