Variation as the Path Forwards

At times we find ourselves at a crossroads, an endpoint, or at a passing place. The road ahead in uncertain, as we may feel overwhelmed by choice or conflicted by competing desires.
It is integral to take periods of introspection in these moments but also to take action. Often it is simply a decision that needs to be taken, a path to be carved and a trial at something different or new. This has the potential to shift things and draw light on the route we want to take and the values we wish to live by.
There is much courage and strength to be found in doing something unfamiliar when a chapter ends - such as taking a few months to volunteer at a refugee camp, attempting a half marathon, learning about sheep farming or cheese production.
By doing and acting, we can better realise what we need precisely when we feel unable to name it or draw insight alone. This is the moment to try something new, learn a different skill, cultivate a practice or discipline and see where it leads.
As a culture, we are so fixated in getting things right, we have forgotten to experiment, to try, to give things a go and completely expect a less than perfect outcome. It is enough to try, to persevere and to place our hands at something totally unknown.
We are so afraid to be mediocre, we often miss out on the chance to simply give new things a go and perhaps discover entirely new passions and loves. These may not be professional pursuits or indeed something we are prodigiously talented at, but if it gives us joy, meaning or satisfaction - that is surely enough.
Such tangents may lead nowhere directly or instantly but will certainly sow seeds towards a richer, braver and more vibrant existence.
So give variety and variation some space in your life. Try something completely new and see where it leads you. Perhaps towards a greater sense of conviction, freedom and grounding.
